Ensuring that
children have access to single dose Nevirapine
shortly after birth is one of the greatest
challenges within the prevention of mother to
child transmission of HIV; at health facilities
and even more so at home. Knowing that about 60%
of the mothers in Africa deliver at home it is
crucial to make the NVP suspension available
outside structured healthcare settings.
Boehringer Ingelheim responds to
this need by making a single dose pouch,
developed by PATH with funding from USAID,
available to all programs benefiting from
Viramune® Donation Programme.
This
self-sealing laminate pouch allows the mothers
to bring the NVP suspension back home safely.
Within the scope of the Viramune® Donation
Programme health workers will fill a dispenser
(content should be used within 2 months), with the VIRAMUNE®
suspension, and seal both within the
pouch. Both the VIRAMUNE®
suspension and pouch
are provided free of charge by Boehringer
Ingelheim for PMTCT.
