•The
purpose of the review is to ensure that the donated
products are used properly for prevention of
mother-to-child transmission. While the overall
approach and public health relevance are important
considerations, this review will focus on how the
product will be provided to patients and its usage.
Note: The approval of national authorities is not
review criteria but is a prerequisite to obtain the
donation. Therefore, any favorable review will be conditionally
based on approval of national authorities.
The reviewer will review the following areas on the
basis accuracy and relevance of information provided by
the applicants.
Feasibility of Program Implementation
The reviewer will focus on whether the program’s
scale, personnel, and budget match its objectives.
Reviewers will also examine the applying institution’s
capacity to successfully implement the proposal.
Programmatic Approach or Program Design
It is critical that all MTCT programs address antenatal
care, voluntary counseling and testing (VCT), delivery
of the product, infant feeding strategies, and care for
both mothers and children. The reviewer will ensure that
the application addresses all of these areas. The
reviewer may provide additional technical remarks or
scientific opinions, but will not influence the approval
process.
Logistics and Distribution
The reviewer will focus on test procurement, storage,
and distribution to avoid shortages of stock and/or
expiration of unused tests. Axios will analyze your
program’s monitoring and reporting system to evaluate
your feedback received on behalf of the donor.
Sustainability
The reviewer will evaluate whether you have designed a
lasting program. While the product donation does not
require sustainability, Axios will critically examine
all programs built on short-term opportunities, as they
have the potential to disrupt existing antenatal
healthcare systems.
